Community Based Health Education
The Greater Houston AHEC coordinates health professional student clinical rotations for area academic institutions to place students in community sites. The rotations give students community health experiences while highlighting community health needs.
BECOME A COMMUNITY FACULTY PRECEPTOR!
The Greater Houston Area Health Education Center (AHEC) is a non-profit, federally funded organization that serves as a link between health professional institutions and communities. The Community Faculty preceptorship rotations, coordinated through Greater Houston AHEC, are unique and highly successful education programs.
We are committed to assisting health professional institutions in increasing student exposure to primary care by placing students with Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Orthopaedics, and Pediatric preceptors in the Greater Houston area. Not only does this provide a “real world” patient mix, but it also allows the students to see what happens in primary and specialty care settings on a continual basis.
Our organization places students from Baylor College of Medicine, The University of Texas Medical School at Houston, The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, and others with community faculty preceptors and in other community based settings to fulfill curricular requirements. If you are interested in teaching or mentoring students to help prepare our next generation of health professionals, we would like to include you as a Greater Houston AHEC Community Faculty Preceptor.
To become a Community Faculty Preceptor or if you have any question about this program, please contact me by phone, fax or by the email listed below.
